Lotus Rendezvous 2007 |
State College PA >>>>Grand Island NY>>>>Watkins Glen NY
Sept 27th to 30th 2007
Hello all,
My name is Joe Popielarczyk, and I am the vice president of the Lotus Owners Of New York (LOONY). Along with Tony Vacarro, I am setting up the first annual, “ North East Lotus Rendezvous 1,” September 27 th-30th, 2007. I would like to invite ALL Lotus fanatics to
join us for a fantastic 4 day event.
This event will start with all participants meeting in State College, Pa. on Thursday evening
around 5 PM, the 27 th, for our initial meet and greet. We will meet at the Super 8 Hotel
in State College Pa. This will be our hotel for this night. The room rate here is around
$60 per night (includes continental breakfast), plus taxes, and their phone # is 814-237-8005.
We’ll then all caravan our group to dinner at a nearby restaurant (TBA), and afterwards
check in at to our rooms, and get settled for the w/e to come.
From there, starting the next morning, there will be a drive to a different city each day
(none more than 4-5 hours), with each day allowing plenty of time for sightseeing,
relaxation, dinner, and nightlife, if you feel so inclined. We will also be able to meet
along the routes for lunch and sight seeing. Here are the details of each day:
We will awake Friday morning, the 28 th, and head for Grand Island, NY
(LOG 23 location), around 10 AM. We will arrive in Grand Island. (via back roads)
around 3 PM. After check in at our motel, the Chateau Motor Lodge, we will drive to
a picnic . The Food for our BBQ is being sponsored by Lotus Ltd, our national club.
at Beaver Island State Park. The Picnic will last until around 6-7 PM. The Chateau Motor
Lodge is only minutes away. The room rate here is around $50 per night, plus taxes,
and
their phone # is 716-773-2868. The remainder of the night will be at the participants
will, but options are a plenty. Some include a scenic drive to Niagara Falls, fun in nearby
Canada, and casinos, among many others. If you are planning to attend the picnic at
Beaver Island Park, please let us know. We will need to get a head count for this part of the Rendezvous.
We will awake Saturday morning, the 29 th, and head for famous Watkins Glen, NY
(LOG 19 location), around 10 AM. Before we leave, we will do breakfast at a nearby
restaurant. We will arrive at Watkins Glen Raceway (again, via back roads) around 3 PM.
There is some club racing (BMW club) going on there that day, among many other things
to check out at this historic raceway. After the Glen visit we can gather our group together
and caravan to downtown Corning for dinner, and to check out all the city has to offer.
We will retire that night at the Days Inn Corning, and prepare for our departure Sunday
morning. The room rates here are around $75-90 per night (includes continental breakfast),
plus taxes, and their phone # is 607-936-9370.
We will awake Sunday morning, the 30 th, around 10 AM. After breakfast at the
hotel, we’ll optionally caravan our cars to a nearby location in Corning, for a small photo
shoot of all our cars if you wish. We should be all wrapped up with that by 12 noon, and
then we will say our goodbyes, and head for our respective destinations home.

This event is set up almost cruise style, in that we may drive together have a common
destination for each day, but make no mistake; this is not a race and all are requested
to obey all speed limits. The point of this event is to enjoy our cars as Colin intended,
and meet some members from differing regional groups. It is an opportunity to meet
some great Lotus people, enjoy beautiful sites, and to drive our cars through some very
well planned out routes, in some of the best and most scenic areas in the north east.
This event is something I’ve always wanted to do, and now that I finally have my
Esprit, I’m completely stoked to have the opportunity to present it to any and all that
would like to participate! This event is open to anyone and the cost will be practically
nothing (the cost of the picnic will be the bulk of the cost), aside your own personal
expenses along the way. The more, the better…
Please contact me at lotusesprit17@yahoo.com for more details. As I mentioned,
this is something that I’ve always wanted to do, and I can only hope there is a
lot of
interest from other Lotus owners as well. Let’s relish in the opportunity to enjoy
our cars, and share the experience with one another. Remember…we are the few who know the difference…
Happy Motoring,
